Carol Choi
I was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada when I was 14. I began learning piano since I was 10 years old and later played the flute in music courses during high school and then started teaching piano when I was about 18 years old. I graduated from the University of Toronto in Architectural Studies.
Although most of my music education was in the Classical genre which is very different from the pop style of Pelicans, I was still invited to join the Pelicans as a pianist/keyboardist, an opportunity I was very glad to have be given. Jimmy takes a lot of time to patiently teach me step by step the differences between each type of music. I have learned a lot from him ever since I joined this band and I continue to learn more everyday.
I was born in a tradition Buddhist family. My family members were all very surprised when they found out I accepted Jesus Christ in 1999 and were quite against my decision. Over time, they began to accept me as a Christian. I wish my parents and sisters could all become Christians one day.
During band rehearsals, I try my best to observe what it’s like to play in a band and how each instrument work to put a song together . As well, I prepare snacks and drinks to show my support for this worship band - one of my talents is in cooking! I coordinate the occasional party or gathering to ensure we find time for bonding. I think my participation in the Pelicans is a good experience in serving God.
