Desmond Lam

I am one of the keyboardists and backing vocals. Occasionally I also arrange backing vocal and choruses for the singers.

In the summer of 1990, I left my birthplace Hong Kong and arrived in Toronto, and I’ve been living here ever since. Over the years, Jesus and music have become an integrated part of my life. This integration has always been an inseparable part of my daily living, and of my ministry in The Pelicans in particular.

I was introduced to Jesus Christ not long after I was settled in Toronto. Although I did not accept Jesus immediately, I remained curious and continued to read the Bible and prayed. I was finally convinced that Jesus was the only one who could fit perfectly into a unique niche in my heart for which there was no substitute, and I welcomed Jesus as my Saviour.

The presence of Jesus in my life gives a new meaning and dimension to my daily life. This conviction continues to be a source of guidance, comfort, and hope to this day.

It is a blessing to me to be part of the Pelicans: people of diverse
backgrounds and skills, all united in one heart to serve the Lord Jesus
Christ by means of serving the community, in the form of music and band. I am convinced that such unity would not happen if any of us were to seek our own glory instead of the Lord's.

As a software engineer, I deal with computer and technology in general everyday. It is only natural for me to fuse technology and music. To that end, I love tinkering with sound systems, synthesizers and sequencers, and music score typesetting.

When not occupied by music and technology, I enjoy the quiet moments of reading, and immersing myself into the screams of high-rev engines and skidding tires while working towards 100% completion in Gran Turismo 3.
