Johnny Wong

I was born in a Christian family in Hong Kong and attended church at a very young age. Although being bombarded with bible stories and Christianity teachings from school and church since kindergarten, I have not been a devoted Christian and was not baptized until I was 21. My academic background includes a B.A.Sc (94) and a M.A.Sc (96) in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Waterloo. I am now working as an engineer in a professional broadcast equipment development firm in Toronto.

I started my music education since I was 6 and have been taking piano lessons since then. Besides piano, I have also self-learned violin, cello and double bass and have been participated in various youth and local community orchestras and choirs. My interest in modern music did not come until I met Jimmy Lam, who is also a member of The Pelicans. Currently, I am the bass player of The Pelicans and I strongly believe there is no boundary between different styles of music. My vision is to touch lives and to share my witness of Christ in me through music.

Favorite musicians: Sergei Rachmaninoff and Yo-Yo Ma
Hobbies: Astronomy, Navigation, Hockey fan (I am a die-hard Leafs fan).
