Music has been a part of me for pretty much all my life. I started playing the piano when I was six years of age and began learning the flute in elementary school. The flute has remained as my favourite instrument throughout all these years; however, at the end of high school, I no longer had the opportunity to play in the orchestra. I participated in a Pelicans event in July 2004 as a backup and was then invited to join as an official member. Along with this invitation came the chance to play the flute again…and this I gratefully accepted.
I was born in Hong Kong but immigrated to Toronto with my family when I was eight. I was baptized as a Catholic when I was still a baby. However, when I began attending a public high school, I gradually stopped all church activities. Then during University, I was brought to Richmond Hill Chinese Community Church and began learning about God from a whole new perspective. I came to understand how Jesus Christ gave himself up for our sins and for the first time, I felt this personal connection to God, not just something I read about in text only. Finally, in 2002, I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal saviour and became a reborn Christian. Life has been so much brighter and happier since then. Jesus didn’t promise us that we’ll be free of suffering, but He did promise that He will always be with us. There is something magical yet so real about His love and His presence that simply cannot be described in words. Returning to God will always be the best decision I have made in my lifetime.
I have a Bachelor of Commerce, with majors in Marketing and Human Resources. I currently work in telecommunications product development. Being in the Pelicans has made me an ongoing learner – of music and other subjects, such as Mandarin! It was the only way I could stop trying to pretend to understand what others were saying or singing when doing so in Mandarin.
As a member of the Pelicans, I hope to introduce God to those who may not have had the opportunity to learn of Him. After all, many people took the time and patience to show me The Way, The Truth, and The Life. It is not a gift I should be hoarding to myself but should be shared with everyone. There is simply no better position to be in than God’s embrace. |
